News from GITEX

The first GITEX Europe Berlin arrived on the 21st.  The AI, digital, startup trade fair from Dubai opened with enthusiasm from the planners. While organisational teething problems were present, attendees did not seem to notice in the conversational filled six halls talking about subjects of smart cities, cyber security and robotics. This was a technology gathering for an industry undergoing changes. As with every tech conference, visitors search for the newest big thing. A new idea that could set the world on fire.

On the consumer side, rugged smart phones made an impression on me.  Once these mobile devices were for a specific type of user for extreme or harsh conditions.   Today rugged smartphones have made their way into the mainstream with buyers.  Chinese brands are leading the charge in the market with Android based devices mid cost models priced around 170 euros.  The DOOGEE waterproof products screens and shown at GITEX gave off a mini–Optimus Prime design with 6.72inch screens and large battery.  The Chinese brand has slowly built a reliable reputation for producing durable smartphones.

The Future

On the subject of smartphones, tech leader Apple was a subject of small conversations.  Why has the California company struggled in its attempts to transition to AI? Everyone tech professional is watching the trendsetting company.

IBM QUANTAM

Quantum Computing, the ability of machines to solve problems at a rapid pace is expected to make a big impact in the near future.  The IBM team described the commercial potential quantum capabilities using the company’s hardware and software. New medicines breakthroughs, filtering out faults in simulations could be possible. The Armonk, New York company is planning a $150 billion investment over the next five years in quantum technology while partnering with global corporate and educational institutions.  For those who are interested in learning more, check out the IBM webpage on Basics of Quantum Information.

The GITEX Europe Berlin team promises a bigger show in June 2026.
