It would be very easy to miss Victoria Isle. Berlin’s quiet kiez is bordered by train lines on all sides. The Lichtenberg neighborhood was named after German Empress Victoria, the wife of Frederick lll. Tucked away in a corner with tree covered cobblestone streets lined by 19th century working class residence buildings, this quiet district is a small living picture of what the capital resembled before the bombing destruction of World War ll. The main square, Tuchollaplatz still has a wooden newsstand along with the the quarter’s museum. Thankfully, for some reason the gentrification ogres taking over the city skipped this area leaving the spaces unspoiled.
