Tech

Following up on two earlier tech posts, my opinions on the Sony Alpha 7ii and Honor X6B. I used both at IFA and during a travel. What are the verdicts?

The HonorX6B gets the best grade for battery life. It is a pleasure not worrying about recharging a smartphone every few hours. However, running Apps is no problem with 128GB and Heilo685 processor. The Magic OS overlayed on topAndroid is user friendly.  While the screen is not as sharp as the higher end counter parts, and the initialisation is a bit slow.  he X6B more than makes up for this with its ease of use. The camera is more than satisfactory for a budget phone. The Honor App is not as smooth or straight forward for transferring pics and videos to my Mac. But I am investigating how to make the process seamless.  The biggest problem is downloading the pics to my Mac.  Another problem, it is still taking time to become accustomed to a large phone with a 6.56 display. I often dread putting the phone in my pocket. I have noticed a candy bar shape imprint in my jeans.  However, at 99 euros, the Honor X6B is an absolute bargain.

Tech Review Sony
Sony Alpha 7ii interface could be a bit easier

The Sony Alpha 7ii, the biggest problem is the interface. After having a conversation with another Sony enthusiasts, it was a relief confirming my first impressions of the software that takes some getting used to where all the functions are located.  Because this camera is a battery drainer, a user has to develop a different technique of taking pictures. Not being a trained photographer, I would take the pictures then edit the best. Now, with the Sony Alpha, vigilance, more awareness of the framing as well as other aspects, setting up the shot has become more important. I am still learning how to use the focus modes, a bit more of learning curve. The custom buttons have become a lifesaver. Just press for a quick setting change.  But what I really like the camera is the solid body feel.  For an older model camera, the 7ii still holds its own as far as excellent picture quality with crisp resolution, even in low light situations. Overall, I am still happy with my first full frame camera.

So far, so good on the device fronts.
