Catania, A City in the Raw

Catania was described to me as “a city in the raw”. Agreed. Sicily‘s second largest city has a lot of scruffy visual riches from a vibrant fish market to ancient structures. People make the place, and Catanese fall in the category of “REAL!” While searching for a restaurant, we came to a pasta establishment where the friendly waitress offered an outdoor table. Was there a towel to clean? No! But thankfully her arm with her hand and a were enough to clean off the crumbs followed by a “Prego”. Admittedly, the Pistachio Pasta was tasty enough to warrant a return.

What struck me about the 8th century Greek settlement was the potential of the Southern Italian metropolis. While walking around noticeably a number of buildings needed a lot of elbow grease. One had to wonder how these treasures would look if fully restored.

For a stroll around the city, start in the main square Piazzo Duomo, then head north on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi to the gate.

Stunning Ragusa

Simply put, Ragusa Ibla Sicily is stunning. I can honestly write this is one of most eye pleasing cities I have ever visited with its Baroque Churches, scenic views and inclined streets.

5 stars on five star travel scale.

Sadly I did not make pictures of the city from the a side where you can get an appreciation of the hill Ragusa occupies.

Ragusa is an 1:20 min drive from Syracuse.

Mt Etna’s Eye

Mount Etna on the island of Sicily is an an eye of Mother Nature. The volcano is an awe-inspiring sight 3500 meters above sea level. One night while walking in Taormina, the volcano erupted. Visible flames could be seen shooting in the air from over 60 km away.

Suddenly one night while I was visiting Taormina Sicily, a moment of calm turned into a display of the power of Nature. 60 km away at 3500 meters above sea level, Mt Etna erupted with flames on the high horizon. #travel #traveltiktok #landscapephotography #mothernature #volcano
