Once again, the technology crowd decided smart glasses are the future. Meta’s parent Facebook, Alphabet’s Google, Samsung along with numerous others continue trotting out model after model hoping to either dominate the next hardware craze or at least try to get a slice of the pie. However, the so-called “next tech craze” cannot get a break with consumers. Despite major PR and marketing pushes, using Kylie Jenner as a spokesperson, the backlash grows as more establishments ban the digital eyewear from restaurants, pools, clubs and bars. The European Union is considering policies or regulated usage. Never mind the fact after trying a few pair over the years, the weight and gesture controls could become annoying over time.

As a mass product, smart glasses appeal looked suspect, always awkward, a much-hyped drawing board device hoping for mainstream acceptance.
IFA Berlin starts September 2nd.
