After attending a camera event today, I learned more about my Sony Alpha 7ii from a pro user. The solid photography device is old but works well. The problem with the past menu was universally derided. Lacking Intuitiveness, taking control is an exercise. Despite this, a fast way to navigate the settings is to program the custom buttons. I did get a demonstration of the latest yet easier menu.
The other advantage of the Sony Eco system is the open mount is compatible with Sigma and Tamron for example. After telling the promoter the price I paid for the Full Frame Camera the woman exclaimed “OH COME ON!” Yes, it was a deal, especially after receiving a replacement unit because of repair issues with my first Alpha7ii. The 1080 video quality has not been an issue for video production.

Looking over the Sony cameras, I may decide to upgrade in 2026. But the decision won’t be easy. The Sony FX is a dream for a want to be filmmaker. The hybrid Sony Alpha 7IV with 4K video is another option on the table. Another reason to upgrade, I was told the Sony App is for creators, easy to use, seamless for devices.
At the time of writing, I still have not heavily invested in Sony lenses, yet. This still gives me an opt out, a chance to change to Canon. Buying camera accessories is the same as a marriage. The divorces can be expensive. Plus, the EOS System has a new entry on the market. And 6K video is coming.
The camera saga continues.
