It is the end of an era. MTV or Music Television is closing. The once cultural driver of everything looks to close shop by the end of the year or morph into something new. The new owners of Paramount decided the channel is not viable in the digital streaming age. There was a time when the world revolved everything MTV played on its 24 hour clock influencing dance, fashion and language. Madonna, Michael Jackson, Nirvana and the list goes on became households names thanks to their heavily rotated videos playing every hour.
“The more you are in today, the more you are out tomorrow”. For some reason the channel never transitioned as viewers flocked to on demand platforms and scrolling instead of surfing. MTV felt dated, out of lock and step. Younger generations moved to Instagram, then to TikTok.
Farewell to Music Television, it was a lot fun while it lasted.
