Battlestar

The Geek Sci-Fi legends from the 20th century were Star Trek, Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica.  The first two became cultural markers, while the last got regulated to genre camp favorite.  In the 21st century as Hollywood looked to leverage intellectual properties for devoted viewers, only one of the three had a lasting impact. Battlestar Galactica, the reimagining of the 1978 to 1980 ABC tv show made the transition while the more popular space epics felt bogged down by expectations. Perhaps not burden by the weight of lore fandom, the 2003 to 2009 Peabody Award winning series hit the unexplored darker tones of the science fiction sphere.  Sex, power, betrayal, murder all cramped into rag tag fleet of space ships while fleeing the robotic race of Cylons intent on enacting the final human genocide.   There have been rumors of a Battlestar movie in development, but so far, nothing concrete. Frack!
