Vogue

Chloe Malle (below) has the pedigree but what will real change at Vogue? The publication head’s new title is Editor of Content, while Anna Wintour still wields the power behind the throne as head of all Conde Nast titles worldwide. The 39 year old Brown University graduate comes from entertainment royalty, mother, actress Candice Bergman and director Louis Malle. Chloe was born with Hollywood connections. But in some ways this appointment feels like a sideways move. As the head of Vogue online and podcast, Malle offered the same ketchup on caviar fashion content that came across as a bit dated in the digital sphere. More of the same that plagued Vogue as readers turned to social media for advice and influence. The publication recycled the same features, relied on the masterhead’s prestige, then repeated the same.

No denying, Vogue still has cache, albeit not in 1998 terms, but the world has moved on, yet for some reason the Conde Nast crowd thinks playing it safe is the best plan. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t.
